Grim Sleeper Arraignment Postponed
Published on 07/27/2010
The alleged serial killer had been scheduled to be arraigned today, but the hearing is now scheduled for August 23rd.
A 57 year-old car mechanic from South Los Angeles named Lonnie Franklin, Jr. is accused of killing 10 women over a time period of over two decades. He could face the death penalty if he is found guilty of these crimes.
The perpetrator of these murders has been dubbed the Grim Sleeper because of a 14 year gap in between the murders, the most recent being in 2007.
Mr. Franklin has been held without bail since July 7th, when he was arrested by authorities. The arrest was made after police matched his DNA to that found at several of the crime scenes.
The judge refused a request by the attorneys of Mr. Franklin to ban photographers from the courtroom.
