What will happen to me if I am convicted of a DUI?

I was recently charged with drunk driving. I want to contest in court, but I am worried that I might receive a harsher sentence if I do. What is the best way to go about this?

Do you have a lawyer? If not, get one because the punishment in court will be worse just because the DA will ask for it to get even for your asserting your rights. With a lawyer, you may beat the charge, get a better offer prior to trial, or even a better one afterwards.

Are you under 17? If not, then it is DWI and you could get up to 6 months in jail (or 1 year if BAC was .15 or higher.) Regardless, you need a lawyer to represent you and evaluate the evidence.

You should absolutely fight it with everything you got. Never give up. You will very rarely ever be penalized for using your constitutional rights. DUIs are very serious and carry heavy consequences.
